Poipu Beach Park Activities?
Poipu Beach Park is great for all kinds of beach activities thanks to its unique geography. The beach is split into two areas by a narrow sandbar called a tombolo. On the eastern side, a shallow lagoon creates a gentle wading area perfect for families with small children. On the western side, the reef break makes for great surfing, windsurfing, fishing, and snorkeling.
Poipu Beach is 3 miles long and 30 meters wide, so when you need a break from the saltwater, it’s easy to find a stretch of warm golden sand to relax on, as well.
While you’re relaxing, keep your eyes peeled for sunbathing Hawaiian monk seals—they love to stretch out on the tombolo. Hawaiian green sea turtles frequently swim in the waters and hang out on shore, too. And in winter, if you scan the horizon, you may even spot a breaching humpback whale! Just remember, if you see any wildlife, make sure to give them space. And if you see anyone harassing the animals, find a lifeguard and call the NOAA Marine Wildlife Hotline at (888) 256-9840.
