Kauai Shopping

There’s a new market in town but it is not your average farmers market. The Poipu Shopping Village hosts The Village Market every first and third Tuesday of every month from 3:30 pm to 6 pm.  What makes this market different from the other markets is the focus on handmade products from local artisans as well as offering fresh produce from local farmers. The addition of resident vendors pouring out of their shops and restaurants and into the market makes The Village Market the place to go to pick up your fresh fruits and veggies and Kauai made gifts.

Live musicians set the chill shopping vibe with their mellow acoustics and harmonious vocals making your shopping experience fun and enjoyable.

The Village Market also showcases live demonstrations from the local artists. Upon our visit a talented woodcarver showed off his woodworking skills as a crowd of all ages watched him chip away at this raw piece of wood into a 10 inch tiki. At his table he proudly displays his other works of art for sale.

Our personal favorite were the carved honu (turtle in Hawaiian).  Don’t you think these would make a great gift for any Turtle lover?

Adjacent to the woodcarving demonstration we found lei makers stringing the sweetest smelling plumeria flowers. The gracious lei makers answered questions from passer byers intrigued by the process. The fragrant leis strung were immediately for sale the minute they were tied. It doesn’t get fresher than that!

On site restaurants, Keoki’s Paradise, Pietro’s Pizza, Anuenue Cafe, Island Taco, Bangkok Happy Bowl, Puka Dog, Papalani Gelato, Kauai Juice Co. were also present.  Some vendors brought delightful samples off of their menus.

Keoki’s Paradise set up shop next to Starbucks. One of the restaurants Managers, Maile, offers her line of handmade jewelry. Keoki's Paradise also brought with them free tastings of their popular, mouth watering pupu, calamari strips. Yum!

At the commencement of the market many opt to enjoy dinner at one of the eateries at Poipu Shopping Village. Mark your calendar for the next one!
