Poipu Beaches

A beach is the best spot for a family vacation and is enjoyed by people of all age groups. The Hawaiian Islands have lot of hot and sunny beaches ideal for the whole family, and the Kauai Island in particular is famous for its Poipu Beaches. Here are a few beaches in the area considered to be the best.

Poipu Beach Park and Baby Beach

Poipu Beach is preferred by many families and was labeled as the best beach by the Travel Channel. Even though it is quite popular, this beach does not get as overcrowded as do other Hawaiian beaches. Poipu beach is a beautiful, generous stretch of white sands about 3 miles long and 30 meters wide. It has become a favorite of many families as it provides almost every kind of beach activity. The beach is literally split in two by a quite narrow land piece known as tombolo. On this piece of land you will find the rare monk seals napping in the afternoons.

The eastern part of Poipu beach is called Baby beach as its waters are ideally suited for kids. Strong currents are absent and there are no big waves to endanger new swimmers. The water is not deep at all and has a sheltering jetty. The western side is the proper Poipu beach preferred by surfers as there is reef on which the waves break and is also good for windsurfing. This spot is also good for pole fishing and snorkeling.

Brennecke’s Beach

On the easternmost end of Poipu beach is another family beach called Brennecke’s Beach. The waters near the shore have easy waves for body boarding for beginners. Body surfing is quite popular here and is also preferred by the locals. As you go further offshore the waves are ideal for experienced surfers and so this particular beach is ideal for both the novice and the super surfer of the family. A part of the beach is well protected and proves to be ideal for safe snorkeling and swimming.

To combat natural erosion the local community recently added a large amount of sand and restored the beach to its pristine crescent shape. The beach is now even more breathtaking, with the Poipu Kai Resort in the front and a short walking distance from Nihi Kai Villas.

Another major advantage for families on these beaches is the availability of various accommodation nearby to suit all budgets. We offer condos, villas, super deluxe villas and free-standing houses having up to five rooms, all available for holiday and vacation rentals. These rentals are ideally suited for families as most of them have a spacious living area and can be booked economically for a longer period. A large family can benefit as they do not need to book individual rooms and the family can be together under one roof with all amenities of home.

Shipwreck’s Beach

Shipwreck’s beach got its name from an old wooden ship that got stranded in the rocks; the ship is long gone but the name remains. Expect good hiking in the area and if you’re strong and young at heart you can leap from the 55 foot cliff into the surf below. Cliff Jumpers on YouTube
