is the center piece of many dramatic sunsets, one of the most photographed spots on Kauai. This north shore destination is renowned for amazing snorkeling too. Tunnels beach is it's carpet to the south and it stretches for nearly two miles, a home to a huge, calm, shallow reef filled with aquatic wonder.

There are at least 60 full time waterfalls on Kauai. Some spill into the Pacific ocean off of the Na Pali, some pour into the gorges of Waimea Canyon, and some are just too remote to access. There is Waialeale's Weeping Wall, Waipo'o Falls in Waimea Canyon, Wailua, Hanakapiai, Opaekaa, Kipu, Manawaiopuna and Kalihiwai, to name a few.

This majestic, 80-foot waterfall was a bravery test for ancient Hawaiian warriors. They would leap from the top of the falls to prove their fitness to rule. Not Recommended! It's an impressive site no matter how you look it, from the lookout to its' south, from a helicopter vantage point or from the small lake at it's base.

The coastline of Kauai is choke with beaches and many of them are off the beaten path. Secrets, Rock Quarry, Anini, Tunnels, Donkey and Hideaways are on that list. Find such a spot and you can swim, snorkel, scuba dive, surf and sun bath with abundant peace and tranquility..

Waimea Canyon

If you're looking for a lush tropical version of the Grand Canyon, then the west side of Kauai has what you're looking for. Waimea Canyon is huge; ten miles long, a mile wide and about 3,600 feet deep. It's gorges are red, green and brown and then sprinkled lightly with waterfalls and rainbows. Even panoramas can't fully express its' wonder and expanse.

The Na Pali are the mountains and valleys that stretch from Kee to Polihale. Fifteen miles of unspoiled and rugged tropical coastline. You can't drive there, you have to hike the Kalalau Trail, kayak in during the summer months or just be content to take a quick helicopter tour. It's Jurassic Park Squared!

Shipwrecks beach got its' name from an old wooden ship that stranded in its' rocks; the ship is long gone but the name stuck. Expect good hiking in the area and if your strong and young at heart you can leap from the 55 foot cliff into the surf below.

If you go about two miles up the road from the old Coco Palms Resort of Elvis fame you'll find Opaekaa Falls. Its' Hawaiian name means 'rolling shrimp' which suggests the delicacy that was harvested at its base. Opaekaa is hard to hike too but easy to look at from its' roadside lookout soon to get a face lift.

Green Sea Turtles are creatures of grace, gentleness and beauty who have inspired sleek Honu petroglyphs and can still be found swimming freely on Kauai reefs. Protected by state and federal law, their population is making a gradual comeback, but they are still considered endangered.
